Aurora Fractional Viola

New from Larsen Strings

Aurora Viola Fractional

These are by far the best fractional viola strings I have heard. The string tension, even on an 11” viola, allows for an audible and pleasant C string.

Larsen Strings - can you see the piano?

Our strings guru, Dr Thomas Zwieg, with Professor Maria Kliegel. Double take? A closer look reveals all.

‘Can you make me a cello A string?’

The answer was anything but simple but that chance remark led to the creation of Larsen Strings. The first Larsen cello A was successfully delivered from the family garage by our founder Laurits Th. Larsen and the Larsen family of strings began to grow along with the realisation that:

Although some of the best things happen by chance we can make them truly remarkable by design.

At Larsen Strings we develop, produce and market strings of the finest musical quality for bowed string instruments. Take a closer look and find out more…

Our Design and Development Process

A key element of our creative process is working with musicians, one to one, testing string prototypes. For example, Maria Kliegel is a professor at the Cologne Academy of Music and we met up with her at the Bürgermeisterhaus in Essen, Germany to talk strings.  The responses and insights gained from artists directly influences the formulation of new designs with the final creative phase being part of the audience at live performance.

Thank you

It’s all about the music and the music doesn’t end when our strings leave our home in Sønderborg. The passion that drives us in design and continuous improvement finds its reward in seeing and hearing our strings in performance.

“Our mission is to produce strings that allow musicians to express nuances in musical expression that close the distance between the composer and audience.”

Sustainability & Larsen Strings

At Larsen Strings, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword; it’s an active commitment towards minimizing our ecological impact. Our dedication to environmental responsibility was recently affirmed during an enlightening conversation with Lea Brückner, last year’s #LarsenGewaScholarship winner, during her visit to our new DGNB Gold certified factory in Denmark.

As a Climate Ambassador, Lea was naturally eager to learn about our sustainability efforts, and we were thrilled to showcase our initiatives. The solar panels adorning the factory’s roof symbolize our earnest commitment to reducing our ecological footprint. Moreover, our factory, constructed with recycled materials, boasts enhanced energy efficiency, with power sourced from CO2-neutral means, aligning seamlessly with Sønderborg’s ambitious ProjectZero mission to have a carbon-neutral energy system by 2029.

Our strings are sealed in EU certified plastic to protect them against corrosion. Envelopes and cartons are made from FSC certified paper. All can be separated and recycled accordingly.

Innovative, energy-efficient facilities

From innovative, energy-efficient facilities to streamlined production processes, we’re actively minimizing waste and CO2 footprint on our journey towards a greener environment. We welcome Lea’s honest interest in this, as well as her tough questions about our policies, and hope together to strike the right chord for a more sustainable future!

Our thanks to Malene Lemann from ProjectZero for the illuminating explanation about Sønderborg’s ambitious plans!

Aiming for sustainable solutions

Our ambition at Larsen Strings is to progressively work toward sustainable solutions in the way that we operate as a company. Some steps are small and some, such as our decision to upgrade to a C0² neutral electricity plan, are larger steps towards our destination.
